Dellroy residents are encouraged to join a village-wide cleanup day.
During Monday’s council session, Mayor Robert Smith reminded members it was time to set the date for the village’s annual town-wide clean up.
After some discussion, members agreed on May 9 for the event. Council will provide dumpsters for village residents to dispose of unwanted items, but no flammables or appliances that contain Freon will be accepted. This event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Carrie Hutson, who is both a member of the village’s volunteer fire department and of the American Red Cross, was present at the meeting to ask council if she may use the village hall to conduct CPR classes for the community. Hutson told council she plans to offer certification classes at the discounted rate of $5 per person, and would like to hold at least two throughout the week and two on different Saturdays. Course dates have not yet been set, but further information will be released as soon as plans are solidified.
Council member Chris Modranski told council he would like to see village employees receive CPR certification. Solicitor Ken Welch advised encouraging certification would be a better option than requiring it. Council agreed to pay for the course for the village’s Marshal’s office and Street Department employees, should they choose to attend.
In other business, council:
-HEARD, in the absence of Street Commissioner John Evans, from Mayor Smith who reported the village park was mowed for the first time of the year. Smith said it appears all of the trees at the park have survived the winter and are budding.
-LEARNED Smith has received one estimate from J.D. Mining, for the proposed paving projects but hopes to obtain several additional estimates. Welch advised Smith to hold the estimates until more are submitted, before presenting to council.
-APPROVED a request for Deputy Kevin McCann and Marshal Glenn Looman to take the village cruiser to the annual police officer’s memorial at London, OH, May 5.
-LEARNED from Looman he is beginning to receive reports of minor vandalism at the elementary school, and requests for additional patrol of that area.
Looman said he will review recent tapes from the video camera in that area. The department intends to step up efforts to enforce the village’s curfew ordinance. He said the eyes and ears of village residents are much appreciated.
