The YMCA is alive and thriving in Carroll County.
Eric Knotts, director of the county YMCA, visited county commissioners last week with the news and an invitation for local businesses to tour the facility.
Knotts said the recent renovation project is complete, and the facility is offering activities for children age two and up to seniors, one of which is 102 years old.
“We are inviting local businesses to tour the facility and see what kind of individualized programs we offer,” Knotts said. “They may qualify for a reduction in their health insurance premiums if their employees are healthy. Our programs can help them achieve that goal.”
The director said businesses interested in a tour and open house for employees should contact him at 330-627-9622 to schedule an open house. Hours at the YMCA, which is located on Moody Ave. in Carrollton, are 7 a.m. until noon and 2-8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. until noon and 2-7 p.m. on Friday and 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Commissioners also heard from two Fox Twp. residents concerning a land dispute on Spartan Rd. Gretchen Michael and Kevin Barman told commissioners there is a problem with the location of the boundary line that separates Carroll and Columbiana counties.
Gretchen noted one landowner has placed a lock on a gate place across the road by Buckeye Industrial Mining a few years when it the company was mining in the area. She said the lock is blocking access to land owned by others, noting the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department has been involved in the matter. She asked commissioners to check their records to see if the road had been abandoned or vacated, as she did not believe any formal action had been taken, thus making it an open road even though it is not maintained.
Commissioner Tom Wheaton advised Michael Commissioner Doyle Hawk, who was absent from last week’s session, is appraised of the situation. When Hawk returned Monday, he said the landowner who placed the lock on the gate appeared in county court and it was his belief, the lock as been removed from the gate.
