The Carroll County Board of Elections has asked for an extension to respond to a second request by the Ohio Secretary of State’s office to questions regarding the Feb. 3, 2009, special election in Carroll County.
In a letter sent Nov. 19 by the Board to David Farrell, deputy assistant Secretary of State, the four-member Board said they will address Farrell’s letter first thing at their regular scheduled meeting Tuesday, Dec. 1 due to time constraints to work on Farrell’s letter.
At issue and concern is 27 absentee ballots cast by in-person early voters which were not counted in the Feb. 3, 2009, special election in which tax levies in the Brown Local and Minerva Local School Districts were voted upon.
According to Board of Election officials, the 27 absentee ballots are secured in a box in the Board office.
Farrell’s second request was made after the Board responded to a first letter seeking information as to why the 27 absentee ballots were not included in the official certification filed with the Secretary of State’s office by the Carroll County Board of Elections.
Farrell’s second letter sought answers to eleven additional questions regarding the absentee ballot omission and what policies and/or procedures that will be adopted by the Board of Elections subsequent to this issue to ensure that it does not happen again in the future. |
