Malvern council approves placement of 2-mill fire levy on November ballot

Malvern Village Council Monday night passed an emergency resolution to place a 2-mill renewal levy on the November 4 ballot for the Village Fire Department.

The levy, which will run for five years, provides the department with approximately $15,000 yearly for the operation and maintaining of the fire equipment and building.

At its July 21 meeting, council approved placing a 7-mill continuous levy on the ballot for police protection. It would raise nearly $100,000 yearly and cost the owner of a $100,000 home an additional $214.97 annually.

In other business council:
- DISCUSSED ongoing projects in the village park, including repairing and painting of the pavilions.

- ANNOUNCED the Park Board will meet Aug. 27, at 7 p.m. in the park.
- DISCUSSED spraying for mosquitoes before the Dancing on the Bridge Festival. Village Administrator Jim Bates said he talked to the Village of Minerva and they would do it for $250 if needed.

- RECEIVED a bid of $42,000 to remodel the front of Village Hall. Council did not take action.

- SET Monday, Aug. 11 for an Ordinance Committee meeting in Village Hall at 7 p.m.

- PAID  monthly bills in the amount of $24,556.06 in vendor invoices and $7,731.45 in payroll paid July 24.

-SET the next meeting for  Aug. 18, at 7 p.m. in village hall
