Dellroy resident airs dog complaint

Jacquie Humphrey
FPS Correspondent

Dellroy resident Gary Ralston aired a complaint regarding what he considers two vicious dogs neighboring his Ohio Street property to village council Monday.

Ralston said that this problem is ongoing and that he does not feel he, his family, or neighborhood children are safe with the manner that these animals are being contained.

Solicitor Ken Welch said it is a matter for the Marshal’s office, not council, to take action on. Marshal Glenn Looman was present at the meeting and acknowledged that he has visited the residence in question in the past regarding the same matter. Looman will look into this issue further and report to council with the status at the July meeting.

Council held an executive session to discuss personnel, after which they instructed Marshal Looman to advise Deputy Michelle Scott she has until June 30 to work her 16 required monthly hours in the village, or she will be dismissed from duty.

The motion passed four to one, with Councilman Chris Modranski voting “no.” Modranski did not cite his reason(s) for his vote.
During the street report Street Commission John Evans told council curb painting is complete and his department will soon have the crosswalks in the village finished as well.

Evans reported they are planting flowers and will have the benches placed in the gazebo soon. Modranski told council that Lowe’s has picnic tables on sale for $89 and council unanimously passed a motion to purchase two tables.

In other business, council:
-LEARNED  Mayor Robert Smith arranged for the first mosquito spraying of the year to be held on Thursday, June 18, beginning at 9:30 pm. Smith told council a second spraying will follow several weeks later.

-HEARD Smith ask area clubs and organizations notifying council of upcoming events in sufficient time for council to put the event on the monthly agenda. Smith told council that he feels this would be advantageous in promoting the community.
