By Carol McIntire
Editor

Organizers of the Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Expo are tying up loose ends and preparing for the Sept. 13 event.

Linda Yeager from the Carroll Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), one of the sponsoring agencies, visited county commissioners to tie up one of those loose ends.

Yeager asked for Meter Rd. to be closed from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. for the Expo that day, and before she could finish her request, it was granted.

Yeager said everything is falling into place for the second annual event, which will be held at the McClester farm on Meter Rd. (just off Andora Rd.) south of Augusta from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Joel Salatin, billed as one of America’s most innovative and dynamic small farmers is the featured speaker. He is scheduled to speak at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Yeager said the day will include a variety of family-oriented events, demonstrations and educational displays and speakers. Among the energy displays will be one by Stark State College of Technology on fuel cell. The expo is sponsored by the Soil and Water Conservation Districts in Carroll, Columbiana, Harrison, Jefferson and Stark counties in cooperation with the Carroll County Health Department, East Central Ohio Forestry Association, Northeast Ohio Forestry Association, Ohio Department of Natural Resources Divisions of Forestry and Wildlife, Crossroads Resource Conservation and Development and Farm Bureau.

Yeager also noted the SWCD is sponsoring a 4th grade field trip to Camp NEOSA Sept. 26 and is looking for sponsors to help with the cost of busing students to the camp. Busing is expected to cost between $500 and $600 using school buses.

The SWCD annual meeting is scheduled Oct. 31 at the Church of Christ (Christian- Disciples) on Moody Ave. from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Kevin Swope, Carroll County district conservationist is the featured speaker. He will talk about agriculture in Haiti.
