Plans are moving forward for the 2009 Carroll County Ribs Burnoff.
Jeanna Shaw, who is organizing the event along with Stefanie Best, updated commissioners on the seventh annual event last Thursday. The event is planned for June 6 beginning at noon at the Carroll County Fairgrounds.
Shaw told commissioners Alan Miller, who previously headed up the event, has voluntarily removed himself from the committee. She also said the TSO Pilots Association, the group which formerly sponsored the event and secured the one-day beer license, is no longer a sponsor. They will once again provide plane rides and Shaw said she has asked them to do a flyover of the fairgrounds.
As a result of a survey conducted last year, Shaw said there will be more musical entertainment and fewer rib burners.
“People wanted a day of entertainment so we are having more music,” she said, adding it includes a disc jockey and a live band called New Wave Nation.
The expansion of the number of rib participants left local vendors feeling the impact in the form of reduced sales, so this year the number of vendors has been reduced to 12. Last year there were 18 rib burners.
“This has been a successful event for the community for several years and I will make sure that happens again,” Shaw said.
She noted there will not be an Ohio State Tractor Pullers Association (OSTPA) pull at the event this year.
Commissioners passed a motion expressing their support for the event.
