FPS staff report

Kevin Brantch and Patrica Hanna
Kevin Brantch (left), and Patricia Hanna, both Carrollton High School graduates are visiting California as part of the Ohio University Marching Band and will march in the Rose Parade New Year’s Day.

Three Carroll County college musicians will be marching with the Ohio University Band in the 121st Rose Bowl parade in Pasadena, CA., this Friday.

The Ohio University Marching 110, known as “the most exciting band in the land”, was selected from more than 100 bands to be one of 20 bands marching in this year’s Rose Bowl parade.

Marching with the OU band from Carroll County will be Patricia Hanna and Kevin Brantch, 2005 and 2009 graduates of Carrollton High School, respectively, and Meredith Traxler, a 2009 graduate of Conotton Valley High School.

Daughter of Tom and Donna Hanna of 3073 Folsom Rd. SW, Carrollton, Patricia plays trumpet in the band at OU where she is pursuing studies in dietetics and nutrition. She has been in the band since her first year at OU and was a squad leader last year. She resides just off campus at 32B North College St. in Athens.

Branch, son of Tom and Norma Brantch of 791 Roswell Rd., Carrollton, is a music major at OU where he is pursuing a music education degree. Although he is a clarinetist, Kevin auditioned on the mellophone for the Marching 110 and will be marching with the mellophone section.

Miss Traxler, daughter of John and Becky Traxler of Leesville, is a freshman and a member of the 28-member clarinet section on the OU band which will be joined by three other bands from Ohio in Friday’s parade.

They include the Ohio State University Marching Band who will also perform at the Rose Bowl game; Pickerington High School and the Ohio State School for the Blind bands.

Meredith says she is enjoying every minute of her experience in the band at OU where she has met students from Strasburg, Newcomerstown, Dover, Carrollton and Navarre.

She says she is proud to be a member of the Ohio University Marching 110 and thankful for people who influenced and encouraged her throughout her years of music education.

The band was scheduled to leave for Pasadena Monday and will return Jan. 3. While in Pasadena, they will have the opportunity to visit several places of interest, including Knotsberry Farm. The parade is scheduled to be televised beginning at 11 a.m. on ABC, the Hallmark Channel, HGTV, NBC, RFD-TV and the Travel channel New Years Day.

The Buckeyes, ranked No. 8 in the BCS standings and the Big Ten champions, take on the No. 7 ranked Oregon Ducks, the PAC 10 champions, in the Rose Bowl, scheduled to be televised at 1:30 p.m.
