It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Carrollton!
The Carrollton Business Women have lit up Public Square, the McCook House is prepared for its annual candlelight tour and open house, the Carrollton Civic Club is gearing up for its annual lighting contest, the Rotary Club is hoping for a “little of the white stuff” for its Christmas Parade Saturday and the Carrollton Business and Retail Association is unveiling its newest project: animated window displays in the downtown area.
Lester Dodds, chairman for the new project, said an unveiling ceremony is set for Friday, Nov. 27, at 7 p.m. Those wishing to attend the unveiling should meet in the gazebo on Public Square. From there they will visit the 12 participating stores as the windows are unveiled one at a time. Organizers said weather permitting, they will have a special guest for the unveiling. The theme for the decorating event is “The Magic of Christmas.” Each participating merchant is required to use some sort of animation in its display. Windows will be lit daily from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. through Dec. 31.
The annual Christmas parade is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 28 at 1 p.m. Lineup begins at noon on 3rd St. NE (school street) in reverse direction. Theme for the parade is “Share the Joy.” Santa and Mrs. Claus are scheduled to arrive during the parade and will meet with children in the gazebo following the event.
The Carrollton Civic Club has announced plans for its annual decorating contest. Judging will be held Dec. 15 from 6-10 p.m. All decorated homes inside the village of Carrollton are eligible for prizes along with any homes within a five-mile radius of the village. Residents outside the village limits that would like to be included should call McFadden Insurance Agency at 330-627-2525 and leave their name and address.
The McCook House is decked out in its holiday best in preparation for the annual open house and candlelight tour. The open house will be held Nov. 27-29 and Dec. 4-6. Hours are Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1-5 p.m. The candlelight tour will be held Nov. 27 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sixteen trees, decorated by local organizations, will be showcased.
A breakfast with Santa is also planned for Nov. 28 at the Carroll County Fire Station on Kensington Rd. just north of Carrollton, from 8-11 a.m. Half of the proceeds benefit Toys for Tots. Santa and Mrs. Claus are scheduled to visit from 9-11 a.m. The first 100 who bring a toy for Toys for Tots or who make a monetary donation will receive an item from the Cleveland Indians. |
