Perfect weather prevailed for the 38th annual Algonquin Mill Fall Festival held Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Petersburg.
With the temperatures hovering in the high 70s all three days, the attendance at this year’s Festival was estimated at over 25,000 people.
According to John Davis, treasurer of the Carroll County Historical Society which sponsors the annual event, admission (at $8 per car) during the three-day event totaled $35,512, which was up 14% over last year. Davis said the attendance broke last year’s 20,000 total and included some 300 Festival volunteer workers, 155 member passes and 23 school buses which transported some 1,150 school children to the Festival grounds Friday from as far away as Mingo Junction. Performances were given Friday by bands and choirs from Carrollton, Conotton Valley, Malvern, Tusky Valley and United Local High schools.
Commenting on this year’s Festival, Carroll County Historical Society President David McMahon said:
“The weather was beautiful and there was really a great turnout of people!”
He also noted that Saturday’s crowd was so large it practically cleaned them out of supplies. “We sold out of pop and several of the food stands needed more supplies to make it through the weekend. So we had to restock Saturday night,” McMahon added. |
