Warrington fire
Carrollton Village firefighter Dennis Fenton applies water to a hot spot at the residence of Richard and Cindy Warrington on Alamo Rd. Monday afternoon  The residence was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived and was a total loss.

The American Red Cross is assisting a Carroll County family after fire destroyed their home Monday afternoon.

A Red Cross official said they are providing temporary housing at the Days Inn in Carrollton for Richard “Bud” and Cindy Warrington of 3144 Alamo Rd., Carrollton.

The State Fire Marshal has also been called in to investigate the fire, which was reported at 2:18 p.m. by an employee of the Carroll County Highway Department who was driving by and saw flames shooting through the roof.

A total of 35 Carrollton Village, Carroll County and Perry Twp. firefighters responded to the call and were on scene within 10 minutes. Two trucks and five men from the Dellroy fire department responded to a call to provide coverage to the village fire station.

Carrollton Village Assistant Fire Chief Tom Mesler said the fire originated in the northwest corner of the 28x80 foot one story structure. The home was a total loss. Mesler said Bud Warrington was working in the barn, which is located behind the house and was not aware of the fire.

Firefighters remained on the scene until nearly 5:30 p.m.
