| Nothing but charred embers remain at a fire which caused an estimated $275,000 damage to the home and contents of the Jim and Barbie Morris family off Honey Rd. in Rose Twp. Saturday morning. |
The State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating a fire, which leveled the home of a family of four Saturday morning.
According to Magnolia Fire Chief Don Nicholson Jr., firemen were called to the Jim and Barbie Morris home at 10161 Honey Rd., when the home owner reported a fire at 8:13 a.m. Nicholson said cause of the blaze which destroyed the family’s single story wood frame ranch room remains undetermined. However, Nicholson noted the fire apparently started in the utility room in the basement. Damage to the house and contents have been estimated at $275,000, Nicholson said.
The family, who includes two sons, 9th and 11th graders at Sandy Valley High School, had lived in the home, which was covered by insurance, for only three years, the homeowner said. The family is currently residing with relatives in Tuscarawas County.
Nicholson said a total of 44 fire fighters responded to the fire and were on the scene for approximately 5 hours. In addition to Magnolia, assistance was provided by fire fighting units from Waynesburg, Dellroy, Mineral City and Fairfield Twp. at Sommerdale. Equipment included 5 engines, 6 tankers and 4 other fire fighting vehicles, Nicholson said.
A band account has been established at all Huntington National Banks in the name of Jim and Barbie Morris for anyone who might wish to make a contribution to assist the family’s current needs. |
