Two longtime attorneys have opened an office in Carrollton and are being joined by the son of the one of them.
Attorneys Kathleeen Allmon Stoneman and Mark D. Okey, (who is also a state representative, D-61st District) have opened an office at 63 2nd St. SW known as The Law Office of Stoneman & Okey Co. Mark’s son, Atty. Mark F. Okey, is joining in the practice and Kathy’s husband, Bill, is serving as office manager and is a title agent in the Stoneman & Okey Title Agency.
Kathy and Mark D.’s fathers, who were both attorneys, were friends as are their children, which makes it a perfect fit, according to the two attorneys.
“I wanted to get back into private practice and I want to be a mentor to my son as my father was to me,” commented Mark D. Okey. “This office provides me with that opportunity and also allows me to work with my good friend.”
Mark D. plans to work part-time in the firm while serving in the Ohio House and Kathy and Mark F. will devote full time to the practice.
Mark F., a graduate of Capital University Law School, was admitted to the practice of law a year ago. Mark D. has 35 years experience and Kathy 29 years experience.
The firm is offering the traditional law services such as probate and estate, family, small business, oil and gas, personal injury and medical malpractice and all aspects of real estate law and title work.
The trio said a growing area of law in Carroll County is oil and gas leasing.
“With the vast amount of leasing going on in Carroll County, new questions are constantly arising,” said Mark D, who is the former chairman of the Civil and Commerical Law Committee in the Ohio House and has a great deal of experience in the oil and gas leasing field.
“We are focusing on the protection of landowners’ rights,” said Mark F., who is heading up the division and will work closely with his father. “We want to make sure landowners get their fair share.”
Kathy is a veteran in the field of estate planning and will take the lead in that division. “With all the oil and gas leasing and bonuses being paid to landowners and with the anticipated revenue from the wells when they go into production, estate planning is very important,” she said.
Mark D., a seasoned litigator, is heading up the personal injury and medical malpractice unit. Kathy also has experience in this field, but said she has been referring clients to Mark D. for several years, so the two will work closely.
“For me, this is a dream come true,” said Mark D. “During all those years I came to Carrollton before I moved here, I said one day I wanted to be a country lawyer. Now my dream is coming true”
Mark F. said he is looking forward to his association with the two seasoned attorneys. “What a great pair to learn from,” he said. “I am looking forward to learning the law profession from two of the best.”
The office staff provides over 60 years of combined legal experience. They staff includes Renee Henry, Linda Hensley and Joanne Eshler. Mark F. and Kathy are also title agents.
Office hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. until noon and 1-4:30 p.m. and Wednesday 8:30 until noon. Other appointments are available at the client’s convenience. Appointments at the client’s home can also be arranged.
