A motorcycle driver is listed in satisfactory condition in Aultman Hospital following a high-speed chase in Carroll and Stark counties early Sunday morning.
Adam T. Hying, 20, of 9459 Stump Rd., Minerva, was the driver of a “crotch rocket” motorcycle that crashed at the intersection of Hill St. and Carrollview Rd. in Stark County after a pursuit by Carroll County Sheriff deputies in both counties.
A report filed in the Carroll County Sheriff's Office by Deputy Mike Balash stated he was traveling on SR 183 (Alliance Rd.) near Green Lines Transportation when he observed a motorcycle traveling east at a high rate of speed. Balash turned the cruiser around and began pursuing the suspect who was clocked at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.
When the motorcycle reached the village of Malvern, the driver turned left onto Avondale Rd. (without using a turn signal) and then onto Main St., heading for Citrus Rd. Another deputy in the area, Steven Orwick, began pursuing the motorcycle. Orwick's report said the driver would reach speeds of near 90 mph and then slow down to approximately 40 mph and look back at the cruiser before accelerating again. Orwick said as the motorcycle approached the intersection, the driver began to lose control and slid to the left. Orwick, who said he slowed the cruiser down when the driver began to lose control, felt something make contact with the front of the cruiser.
Orwick said he made contact with the dispatch center and asked for an ambulance.
The driver of the motorcycle identified himself as Hying. He was transported to Aultman Hospital at Canton.
A warrant was issued Monday in Carroll County Municipal Court for Hying on a charge of fleeing and eluding a police officer. |
