A new art show featuring miniature art and collectible dolls is on display for May and June at the Carroll County Arts Center. An artist's reception for participating artists is scheduled May 18 from 1 to 4 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
The doll display is the personal collection of Ellie Bender of Malvern, owner of the Eclectic Collection doll shop, formerly of Minerva. The exhibit represents a lifetime of collecting designer, vintage and other one-of-a-kind dolls. Ms. Bender will be at the artist's reception to discuss her collection.
The deadline for registering for the Kids Summer Art and Music Camp "Arts of Appalachia" at the Bluebird Farm has been extended until May 10. Children going into 4th, 5th and 6th grades next year are eligible to attend the camp. Fees are $25 per student and include music lessons, art supplies and snacks. A limited number of scholarships are available for the camp.
Classes for May include a Kids' Art Class on May 17 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Fee is $5 and includes supplies.
A beginning photography class for adults will be held May 14 beginning at 6:30 p.m. This class is for both film and digital photography. Faa is planning to conduct these classes on a continuing basis to lead the student to a deeper understanding of the art of photography. Plans and times for additional classes will be announced at this class. Fee is $25 for members and $30 for non-members. Students should pre-register for the class, which will be cancelled for lack of attendance.
Wildlife artist Wayne Chunat will continue his classes in watercolor and acrylic painting on May 29 at 5p.m. Fees are $20 for member and $25 for nonmembers. Students should pre-register for this class.
Marty Chapman of Minerva will be at the Carrollton Farmers' Market May 17 demonstrating the art of woodturning. The Arts Center will have a tent at the market offering information about membership, classes and coming events.
The Ohio Farm Bureau is sponsoring a statewide art contest again this year, entitled "A Tip of the Hat to Ohio Agriculture" and the Arts Center is the place to enter the event.
A 10-gallon straw cowboy hat is this year's canvas for a local artist to turn into a prize-winning representation of agriculture in Carroll County. The hat and contest rules are now available at the Arts Center. Hats must be in Columbus by July 1 to be part of the competition.
