‘I Spy...' Relay for Life

FPS Staff Report

The 11th annual American Cancer Society (ACS) Relay for Life of Carroll County will be held June 20 and 21 at the Carroll County Fairgrounds.  The theme for this year is "I Spy A Cure."  Relay for Life is an overnight team event which the community takes up the fight against cancer.  Last year Relay for Life raised a grand total of $38,517.65.

Schedule of Events

June 20 & 21
12- 5:30 p.m. - Teams arrive to set up their tents and register
5:30 p.m. - Survivor Registration
6 p.m. - Opening Ceremony - All Team Members Present
Welcome - Deb Senko
Raising of the Flag - VFW / Troop 141
National Anthem - Margo George
Invocation - Jon and Ethan Naylor
Ribbon Cutting Ceremony - John Hawk
Caregivers Walk with Survivors and Special Music
Cheer by the cheerleading squad
Team Introductions by Tom "Spikeman" Spiker
Team Captains and Team Members join in walking/display banner/dance
*Display banners on the fence in front of the grandstand
Relay Begins
7 p.m. - Dinner to all participants.
Disc Jockey - Tom "The Spikeman" Spiker
Hula Hoop, Jump Rope Contests & 3 Legged Race - To be announced
Scrapbooking at the Friendship Center
8 p.m. - Frozen T-Shirt Contest
8:30 p.m. - Glow in the Dark Lap
9:15 p.m. - Participants will leave the track and sit in the grandstand.
9:30 p.m. - A Special Caregiver Story by Becca Minor
The luminary ceremony will begin with the lighting of the luminaries and the reading of the names of those "Honored and in Memory."
Calvin Graham - Bagpipes
Prayer  - Pastor Katie Osier     
Special Music.
Ceremony will conclude with everyone present taking a lap around the track in silence.
DJ Sean begins at 12 a.m.
Late Friday Night Team Events
10:30 p.m. - Bed Race - Heats
11:30 p.m. - Limbo Contest - 2 age groups 10 and under and 11 and over
12 a.m. - Relay Idol Contest
1 a.m. - Dress Like Your Favorite NASCAR Driver Lap
1:30 a.m. - Cornhole Tournament
2 a.m. - Dress Like Your Favorite Baseball Team Lap
2:30 - 3 a.m. - I Spy Scavenger Hunt
3 a.m. - Dress Like Your Favorite Football Team Lap
3 a.m. - Straw Poker
3:30 a.m. - Volleyball
4 a.m. - Dress Like Your Favorite Super Hero Lap
Come join the board games and card games under the grandstand; possible "euchre" tournament (if enough interested)

Saturday Morning Events:
8 a.m. - Survivor Breakfast under the grandstand.
11 a.m. - Awards and Closing Ceremony - All Team Members Present
