The Carroll County Caregiver Coalition hosted the fourth annual Caregiver Appreciation Luncheon at the Days Inn of Carrollton April 10. This was a complimentary event for any in-home, unpaid family caregiver residing in Carroll County.
Wayne Harper of Carrollton was chosen as Caregiver of the Year. Harper, a former engineer, quit his job to stay at home and take care of his wife. He runs a business, "The Hunting Shack" out of his home. Harper stated being a caregiver is "a tough job but worth it." He said, "This is an award I am proud to receive but wish I didn't because that means someone is suffering."
Other nominees included Florence McMasters, Ralph Brackin, Dorothy and James Butler and Darlene Schier.
A selected group from outside the county chose the top finalists and the Caregiver of the Year from the nominations received. |
