Caregiver of the Year named
FPS staff report

Wayne Harper Care Giver of the YearThe Carroll County Caregiver Coalition hosted the fourth annual Caregiver Appreciation Luncheon at the Days Inn of Carrollton April 10.  This was a complimentary event for any in-home, unpaid family caregiver residing in Carroll County.

Wayne Harper of Carrollton was chosen as Caregiver of the Year.  Harper, a former engineer, quit his job to stay at home and take care of his wife.  He runs a business, "The Hunting Shack" out of his home.  Harper stated being a caregiver is "a tough job but worth it."  He said, "This is an award I am proud to receive but wish I didn't because that means someone is suffering."

Other nominees included Florence McMasters, Ralph Brackin, Dorothy and James Butler and Darlene Schier.

A selected group from outside the county chose the top finalists and the Caregiver of the Year from the nominations received.
