Welcome to the Carroll County YMCA’s new weekly column provided by The Free Press Standard to inform the reader of the exciting changes happening at your Carroll County YMCA.
Look for this space to tell you what’s happening right now and to find upcoming fitness and instructional activities for every age.
The Carroll County YMCA is currently in the midst of a $250,000 renovation campaign to rooms in the former St. John’s Villa off of Moody Ave. When remodeling is complete, the Y will house a new fitness center with 11 Cybex machines, three treadmills, three crosstrainers, a total body arc and two bikes.
The new mirrored weight room will offer benches, pulleys and free weights and plates. A separate yoga and Pilates room will be added. Classrooms are being upgraded as are restrooms which will offer showers and lockers.
On-going classes are cardio power mix, yoga, Pilates and tae kwon do. Child watch is available during a few hours with more to be added when the fitness center opens.
Youth programs slated for early 2009 include gymnastics, instructional volleyball, indoor soccer, instructional basketball, KidFit, lyrical dance and an afterschool club.
Adult sports leagues will be starting in volleyball, wiffleball, dodgeball and men’s basketball.
Also coming are line and square dancing on Saturday nights and card club on Tuesdays. On Jan. 3, a cornhole tournament will be held followed by dancing.
The Carroll County YMCA is offering a membership special with no start up fee from now until Dec. 24. Starting Dec. 26, one-half of the start-up fee will be offered until Jan. 31.
