Hello everyone! I can’t believe my eyes! The author of the book I shared with the kids last week is a member of the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). And guess what, this week I am sharing a book with you about his project.
You ask, what is Community Supported Agriculture? It is a connection between a nearby farmer and the people who eat the food the farmer produces. What makes this project different for many is the fact that the people have been connected with the land that fed them. In other words, they share in the work on the farm in exchange for food.
Here are a few statements from letters that was sent to the board of CSA. From Maine: It is through the cooperation between farm and community that a sustainable local food supply will become a reality. From Oregon: A CSA farm is an affirmation of the kind of world we want to live in. It is a positive choice for the future. And from Wisconsin: My children...understand how and where we get what we eat.
I’d like to close with this statement from Garrison Keillor, A Prairie Home Companion. “America of the future will be all malls connected by interstates. All because your parents no longer can raise their own tomatoes.” March 28, 1998.
Until next time, why not chew on this idea for a while.
Your friend,
Sherry
