Son of area woman heads up force protection for USAF in Middle East

Colonel Scott EnoldThe son of a Carrollton area woman and her late husband is serving as the Director of Force Protection with the United States Air Forces (USAF) in the Middle East.

Colonel Scott Enold, son of Kaye Enold of 4240 Apollo Rd. SE, Carrollton, and the late Gary Enold, is responsible for directing the development and implementation of force protection (FP) programs, policies and procedures for combat operations for forces spanning 27 countries in Southwest Asia.

He has functional oversight for 8,000 Security Forces personnel on 19 bases in 11 countries protecting over $20 billion in combat aircraft and USAF resources.

Colonel Enold oversees the Integrated Defense of AFCENT war bases, leveraging Joint/Coalition and interagency capabilities and effects. He leads a 20-person AF staff, 65 contractors and 21 linguists in FP operations, intelligence and resources for full-spectrum operations.

Colonel Enold’s present assignment was made upon graduation from the United States Army College with a Master of Science degree in Strategic Studies in June 2009.

Colonel Enold was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corp in 1987 and is a career Security Forces (SF) officer. He has been assigned to various SF command and staff positions in the United States, Europe and the Middle East.

He served as a deployed squadron commander/Defense Force Commander during Operations Desert Storm/Southern Watch, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.

Colonel Enold is a graduate of Upper Darby Twp. Senior High School, near Langsdowne, PA., and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management from the University of Akron in 1987.

He completed various other training programs, including a Master of Social Science degree from Maxwell School of Citizenship at Syracuse University, NY.

Enold’s prestigious military assignments are listed as follows:
October 1987-August 1988 - Flight Security Officer, 91st Missile Security Squadron, Minot AFB, ND.

August 1988-December 1989 - Shift Commander, Nuclear Security Officer and Officer in Charge Emergency Services Team, 857th Security Police Squadron, Minot AFB, ND.

January 1990-August 1992 - Shift Commander, Convoy Commander and Nuclear Security Officer, 377th Security Police Squadron, Ramstein AB, Germany.

August 1992-September 1993 - Squadron Section Commander, 86th Security Police Squadron, Ramstein AB, Germany.

September 1993-May 1996 - Operations Officer and Nuclear Security Officer, 52nd Security Police Squadron, Spangdahlem AB, Germany.

May 1996-November 1996 - Commander, 52nd Security Police Squadron, Spangdahlem AB, Germany.

November 1996-June 1997 - Student, Basic Military Language Course, John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School, Fort Bragg, NC.

June 1997-June 1999 - Combat Security Advisor, 6th Special Operations Squadron, Hurlburt Field, FL.

June 1999-June 2000 - Student, United States Army Command and General Staff Officers College, Fort Leavenworth, KS.

June 2000-May 2002 - Commander, 347th Security Forces Squadron, Moody AFB, GA.

June 2002-June 2004 - Commander, 325th Security Forces Squadron, Tyndall AFB, FL.

June 2004-July 2006 - Chief, Plans Branch and Functional Area Manager, Directorate of Security Forces, Headquarters Air Force, Washington, DC.

July 2006-July 2007 - Commander, 48th Security Forces Squadron, RAF Lakenheath, United Kingdom.

July 2007-July 2008 - Deputy Commander, 48th Mission Support Group, RAF Lakenheath, United Kingdom.

July 2008-June 2009 - Student, Army War College, Carlisle Barricks, PA.
June 2009-Present, Director, Force Protection, United States Air Force Forward, Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar.

Major awards and decorations earned by Colonel Enold include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with six oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster and Air Force Achievement Medal.

Other achievements include:
1995 - 17th Air Force Security Police Outstanding Company Grade Officer of the Year.

1995 - USAFE Security Police Outstanding Company Grade Officer of the Year.

1998 - 16th Special Operations Wing Ten Outstanding Young Americans.

1998 - AFSOC Security Forces Company Grade Officer of the Year.

1998 - USAF Security Forces Outstanding Company Grade Officer of the Year.

2006 - Headquarter Air Force, Logistics, Installations and Mission Support General John P. Jumper Award for Excellence in Warfighting Integration.
Colonel Enold’s promotions include Second Lieutenant May 17, 1987; First Lieutenant May 27, 1989; Captain May 27, 1991, and Major Jan 1, 1999.

Colonel Enold is married to the former Captain Shannon E. Stewart of Charlottesville, VA. They have two children, Camille, age 9, and Stewart, 6, and a chocolate Labrador Retriever “Sage”, age 12.

His mother, Mrs. Enold, is the former Kaye McIntire, a 1954 graduate of Carrollton High School.
