Chili, classic cars & more offered at open house

FPS staff report

Classic cars, golden oldies and the awesome sundae dessert cart.

All these and more will be available at the Carroll Golden Age Retreat annual Open House and Cruise In!  The event is scheduled for Sept. 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and there are plenty of activities for everyone to enjoy.

Activities include:  Laurie Shepherd with L’s Creations in the south sitting room at 9 a.m.; Mike Adams Band in the outside pavilion, 9:30 a.m.; Mary Kay facials in the south sitting room at 10 a.m. and Angeloni the strolling magician will begin at 9:30 a.m.

A bake sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the front lounge.  Proceeds benefit the employee flower fund.  Donations are welcome.  A facility sponsored free lunch wagon swine & dine (Nana’s Snack Shack, owned and operated by Kathy and Danny Shawver) will offer barbeque pork sandwiches, sides, nachos and cheese.  Ice tea will be available outside and coffee available at the bake sale.

Spikeman will host the Golden Oldies Cruise In at noon in the north parking lot.  Door prize drawings will be held at 12:30 p.m.  George Shepherd will perform piano music from 1-1:30 p.m. and the awesome activities sundae cart will be on site.

The chili cook-off is open to all county departments this year.  Judging for the people’s choice will begin at 11:30 a.m.  Rules for the chili cook-off are:

1. Each county employee or department may enter one (1) crockpot of chili (not too spicy, residents will help judge!)

2. Entries must be brought to the kitchen by 10 a.m. Sept. 5, 2009.  Sandy Johnson will assign a number.

3. Cash prize $25 will be awarded.

Any county business or office wanting to set up a small vendor or display table is welcome.  Politicians welcome.  To set up, call Ollie at 330-627-4665.
