You can help make a difference in the lives of hundreds of local families by joining HARCATUS and their regional partners, the Buckeye Career Center and the Carrollton First United Methodist Church Youth Ministry, in the celebration of National AmeriCorps Week May 9 -15.
The 1st annual HARCATUS Family Support Center Clothing Drive will benefit the residents of Harrison, Carroll, and Tuscarawas Counties. Men’s and women’s business attire and maternity wear are desperately needed, but a variety of donations are welcome.
In keeping with a mission of combating poverty and situations which create poverty, HARCATUS Tri-County Community Action Agency will be offering special needs clothing options to area families who find themselves in crisis or situations that hinder their attempts to achieve self-sufficiency.
AmeriCorps is a national corporation that provides volunteers to nonprofit agencies who work to eradicate poverty and the circumstances that cause poverty. AmeriCorps operates well know programs like the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), Citizen Corps, and VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) at both the State and Federal levels. Volunteers from these programs work in our schools providing one on one attention to students in reading and proficiency test preparation. These are key resources to our local disaster preparedness forces working under the direction of the Homeland Security umbrella providing valuable peoplepower, skills, talents and experience. Most noticeably, RSVP staff the local visitor centers promoting tourism for the local economy.
