Christmas arrives early in Leesville

FPS staff report

Leesville Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) and the village of Leesville received an early Christmas present.

Leesville VFD took possession of a new fire truck Dec. 13.  The 2008 International Pierce pumper/tanker has the capacity of pumping 1250 gallons per minute and a five-man cab.  This is only the second new fire truck ever obtained by Leesville VFD.  The first was a Ford purchased in 1946.

The department learned they received a $190,190 grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency.  The department will be holding several fundraisers to cover their local match for the grant.

The pumper/tanker cost $202,000 and replaces a 1975 tanker and a 1980 engine.  Leesville VFD consists of 14 members and covers the village of Leesville and Orange Twp.
