Antique power comes alive during annual show

FPS staff report

The annual Carroll County Antique Collector’s Club Power Show will be held Oct. 18-20 at the Carroll County Fairgrounds on Kensington Rd., Carrollton.

Visitors will see various working demonstrations including a grist mill, hammer mill, threshing, straw baling, a steam engine and candle making along with demonstrations of lard rendering and making sorghum syrup and apple butter.

Antique tractors and equipment will be on display with awards presented for Best of Show, President’s Choice and Best Represented Oliver.  The 2013 raffle tractor, an Oliver 550, will be on display. Tickets are $1/each or 6/$5 and will be available during the weekend event.  The winning ticket will be drawn Oct. 20 at about 3 p.m.

The kitchen will open at the fairgrounds daily at 8 a.m. Breakfast will be served until 11 a.m. when the lunch menu begins.  Nightly dinners will be served from 4- 7 p.m.  Cost is $8.50 per meal and includes roll, dessert and drink.  

Friday night’s feature is Swiss steak, mashed potatoes, and corn.  Saturday’s dinner is BBQ chicken dinner, which includes 1/2 a chicken, scalloped potatoes, and green beans. 

Tractor pulls will be held during the three-day event.  An Open to the World transfer pull will begin at 4 p.m. Friday.  Classes include:  4,500 and 5,500 lb. antique up to 60 horsepower (HP); 4,500 and 5,500 lb. antique over 60 HP; 5,500 and 6,500 lb. Open Antique, cut tires permitted; 6,500 lb. stock, 7,500 and 8,500 lb. non-turbo stock.

A dead weight pull begins Saturday at 11 a.m. Classes are:  4,500, 5,500, 8,500, and 10,000 lbs.; and 7,000 lb. Red Power Class.  The class is open to all tractors.  Two sets of awards will be presented in this class.   One set of awards for the Binder Division (Farmalls) is sponsored by Binder’s Repair.  The tractor pulls are sponsored by Country Side Equipment Sales.

A Car Show featuring Spikeman is planned for Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Registration is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Entry fee is $5.  Dash plaques will be presented to the first 100 registered. 

There will be a 50/50 raffle and door prizes along with People’s Choice Awards and special awards.  Contact Ron Dennis at 724-272-7954 for information.
