FPS staff report
August 19, 2013
As the end of August approaches, it is time for the Carroll Golden Age Retreat Annual Open House and Cruise In.
The event is Aug. 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the facility located at 2202 Kensington Rd., NE, Carrollton.
Activities begin at 10 a.m. with Linda Byrd performing in the Multi-Purpose Room and a bake sale in the North Sitting Room. Proceeds from the bake sale benefit the Employee Flower Fund. Donations are welcome.
A facility sponsored Free Lunch Wagon (Nana’s Snack Shack) will offer pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs or coneys, nachos & cheese, and sides. Kevin Neidig from Medi-Wise Pharmacey will serve homemade ice cream with assistance from the Carroll County Dairy Princesses.
Entertainment featuring Ruthie’s classic, country and gospel music will be held 11 a.m. to noon and 1-2 p.m. The Golden Oldies Cruise In, hosted by Spikeman, will begin at 12 p.m. in the north parking lot.
Door prize drawings, 50/50, and a silent auction will be held in the north resident’s dining hall at 12:30 p.m.
Entries for the Chili cook-off should be brought to the kitchen at Carroll Golden Age Retreat between 9-10 a.m. Vicki Reninger will assign a number at that time. Judging starts at 11:30 a.m. A $25 cash prize will be awarded to the winner.
Each county employee or department may enter one crockpot of chili (not too spicy, residents will help judge).
Any county business or office may set up a small vendor or display table. Politicians welcome. To be included, call Ollie at 330-627-4665.
“We appreciate the many donations and volunteer hours received from the community,” stated Ollie Hawkins, Carroll Golden Age Retreat supervisor. “Come and partake in the pleasures we have in store!”
