The Huff Run Watershed Restoration Partnership is looking for amateur nature photographers.
The seventh annual Huff Run Photo Contest is now open. All photographs entered will be recognized and displayed throughout the region. Cash prizes for first ($50), second ($30) and third ($20) places will be awarded as well as honorable mentions.
The Huff Run Watershed includes the area between Mineral City (eastern Tuscarawas County) and State Route 171 near Morges (western Carroll County). The Watershed encompasses a 14 square mile area surrounding the Huff Run stream and includes the residential areas of Mineral City, Lindentree, and Morges. The watershed was heavily mined in the 1800s and early 1900s causing pollution to ground and surface water. The Partnership has been working since 1996 to restore the stream and have seen fish slowly return.
All photos entered into the contest must be taken within the Watershed and turned in by Aug. 1, 2009.
Judges will select first, second and third place winners based on aesthetic value, technical merit, and composition. The judges will include the Norma Johnson Nature Center Director, a professional photographer from Celuch Photography and the Mineral City Elementary School Art Teacher.
The winners will be announced at the Mineral City Party in the Park on Aug. 16, 2009. Photos will also be on display at the Tuscarawas County Fair and the Mineral City Nicole Donant Library once winners have been selected.
Participants may enter up to three photographs. Entries can be mailed or dropped off at: 8728 North High St., PO Box 55, Mineral City, OH 44656. For more information, maps and a complete list of rules visit the Huff Run website at www.huffrun.org or contact Maureen Wise, Watershed Coordinator, at 330-859-1050. |
