Carroll County veterans have added an American flag to the décor in the new chapel at Westview Cemetery.
Veterans from Veterans of Foreign Wars Fighting McCook Post 3301, American Legion Post 428 and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 85 conducted a flag presentation last week at the chapel.
Veterans Toby Davis, Carl Miller and Troy Cox presented the flag as Bill Moore presented a brief history of the chapel. He said the building was formerly a garage for the township trustees. When the trustees built a new meeting hall and garage, the facility was no longer needed. “We suggested maybe they could turn into a chapel to be used at funerals in case of inclement weather,” Moore said. “We offered to help, but the trustees took the lead and did the work. We felt the least we could do was to present a flag to the trustees and the community.”
Work was started on the project in 2008 and it was completed prior to the 2009 Memorial Day ceremony. During that period, Trustees Kenny Skinner, Bill Myers Rick McNinch and Mark Walters did the work inside the building and a contractor was hired to complete the outside renovations. |
