A Formalwear Style Show is being held in anticipation of prom season.
The style show is scheduled March 17 form 2-4 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in East Canton. Two Carrollton teens, Brianne Amos and Mikala Shafer, will be modeling in the style show, along other girls representing eight area high schools.
The formal wear is from Becca’s Closet and is free to any high school girl who needs a dress to attend prom, homecoming or any other high school sponsored event. Becca’s Closet is the legacy of Rebecca Kirtman who launched a dress drive during her freshman year of high school to provide free prom dresses to students who could not afford them. Kirtman continued the campaign the following year. After she was killed in an automobile accident in 2003, her family kept her dream alive.
St. Paul’s United Church of Christ is the only chapter in the state of Ohio. There are thousands of dresses at the church and many of them still have price tags on them.
The event is free. Church officials said, “We hope area high school girls will attend to see just how great these dresses are.”
St Paul’s Church is located at 306 W. Church St., East Canton. Take Rt. 30 to East Canton and turn left at the first traffic light onto Wood St. Follow Wood St. to Church St. and turn right. The church is located on the left at the end of Church St.
