Green Valley Ruritans were joined by representatives from several neighboring Ruritan clubs at their March meeting.

John Ladrach, Ohio District 1 governor from the Tusky Valley Ruritan Club, opened the zone meeting by first introducing Walt Petrime, who represented the Carrollton Ruritan Club.

Petrime explained his group’s fundraising and community assistance efforts and reported they are currently seeking to gain a total of seven new members this year, with one addition already in place.

Russell Dean of the Tusky Valley Ruritan Club then spoke of his club’s current endeavors, including a quilt raffle that will be held at the Atwood Fall Festival.

Dan Baer, president of the Green Valley Ruritan, briefly told the zone members of his group’s community service events, including their long standing Biddy Basketball program.

Finally Bob Lahmers, Ohio District Zone Governor from Cambridge, spoke to those gathered. Lahmers reminded members that “every club is important, regardless of size” and stressed the importance of goal setting.

Lahmers presented Kenneth Scott of Carrollton and Ernest King of Dellroy, with outstanding achievement awards for the submittals of club news to the national office.

During Green Valley’s regular meeting, a motion was passed to contribute $50 to the Sherrodsville softball league, and $30 was approved for the purchase of an ad in the OVAC Ohio/West Virginia all star basketball tournament, at which Abbey Gooding, daughter of member Phil Gooding, will be participating.

Jim Romig requested a motion for the approval of funds to begin purchasing materials for the construction of a new pavilion at the Sherrodsville Park. The amount of $3,000 was approved towards the total estimated cost of $5,000.

Several fund raising options were discussed and will be finalized at the April meeting, which will be held at the Sherrodsville Lion’s Club.
