Kids n’ Valentines

From the heads and hearts of third graders at Augusta, Carrollton and Dellroy

FPS staff report

February is known as the month of romance, a time when people give candy, flowers or others gifts to their loved one.

According to the Hallmark website, approximately 191 million Valentine’s Day cards are exchanged industry-wide (not including packaged kids’ valentines for classroom exchanges), making Valentine’s Day the second-largest holiday for giving greeting cards.

The FPS recently questioned third grade students from Augusta, Carrollton and Dellroy Elementary Schools, asking them about Valentine’s Day.

We asked students at Augusta what they would get their valentine?

Parker Crim, Rachel Long, Todd McPherson, Brandon Bolanz and Michael Ingledue all said they would get their valentine chocolate, while Leeta Wharton said her’s would be a heart of chocolate. For Dakota Knight it was Hershey Kisses.

Jacob Roberts, Kierra Gubesch and Sarah Pandrea said they’d give a box of chocolate.

Favorite valentines would receive a card from Alex Ulman, Zach Parsons, Cole Huggins and Cassie Miller, Dylan Pape went with valentine cookies, Johnathen Johnson listed flowers and Eleesia Taylor would give a rose to her valentine.

“I would give my girlfriend flowers,” said Jonathan Russell.

“A great big hug,” said Jazzlyn Pidgeon. Hugs were big with Emilee Carlton and Emelia Days, also.

A teddy bear is what Teal Burchfield would give and Elija Wartluft said he would give his valentine a lamp.

Alexndra Hill went with roses and cash, and a piece of candy and a card is what Dakota Schmidt would pass along.

“Flowers and a stuffed animal with a heart,”  said Ariel Leiby.

“I would give my valentine a very special gift of friendship,” noted Rebecca Gromley.

And, of course Brenden Marks, like Rebecca, didn’t have to spend any money on his gift, but it just might be one that pays big dividends. For Brenden it was “A kiss on the lips.”

Students at Carrollton Elementary were asked that age old question:  Who’s your favorite valentine and why?

One of the most popular answers was “Mom” according to Zachary Roberts. Mom is also Bailey Kline’s because “I love her and she is my valentine.”  Danika Culp chose her mom because she is very nice.  Michael Lee’s mom helps him with his homework and while Tavis Rutledge’s mom also helps him, he adds, “She is the best mom ever.”  Kaleb Weller said his mom is his favorite because she always helps him with the hard stuff.

Noah Carrothers also says mom is his favorite valentine because she is part of his family.  Annabel Gesaman chose her mom because she is nice and Annabel likes that.

Not being left out is Dad, claims Lexi Swearingen.  Grace Bartlow said her dad is her favorite valentine because he is nice to her and Mackenzie Shroyer’s dad is not only nice to her but loves her very much!

Mikayla Tuckosh summed it by saying her favorite valentines are her mom and dad because, “I love them and they love me.”  Wyatt Thompson chose his grandma because she makes a buffet and they watch a movie.”
Friends and fellow classmates are favorites also.  Diana Gomez’s favorite is Damon because he is very sweet and kind.  Damon Grimm said Bailey because she always shares.

Being fun helped Cassidy Laisure choose Bryce Yoder because he is funny.  Cassidy Bajornas is Garrett Best’s favorite valentine because she’s really fun and funny and Cassidy Bajornas chose Jack because he is very funny.

Bryce Yoder’s favorite valentine is Grace and Nola Campbell’s favorite valentine is her best friend-ever, Wyatt Thompson.

Abby Miller, Rachel Bright and Kelsie Thompson chose Nick Jonas as their favorite valentine.  A third of the famous Jonas Brothers, Nick was chosen because he is not only a good singer but is “so cute.”

Only one person knows who Jack Beamer’s favorite valentine is because he told the FPS, “It’s a secret.”
